We make sure all our students are safe, happy and cared for while in New Zealand, and we offer accommodation options to suit all lifestyles.

A range of accommodation options:

Because we cater for students of all ages, we offer a range of accommodation. Following the guidelines in the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students, students can choose between:

  • Living with their parents
  • Living with parents’ choice of caregiver
  • Living with a homestay family
  • Renting a student apartment
  • Living in independent accommodation
  • If you are under 18, you must choose one of the first three options.

How homestay work

Homestays are the best way for students to experience life in New Zealand, get to know local people and places, and practise speaking English. Up Education recommends homestay accommodation for all our international students – and it’s required for students under the age of 18, unless they’re living in approved accommodation or with a caregiver. Homestay students will live in a home with a local family and up to two other international students. They’ll have a bedroom with a study desk, and access to TV, Wi-Fi, meals and laundry. The host family will make sure students know how to get public transport to and from college before their first day with UP Education.

High homestay standards

UP Education recruits top specialists in each field of study for best possible results. Programmes are tailored to individual student needs and abilities, and classes are delivered by dedicated professional educators. Teaching is a mix of lectures, tutorials and self-study periods, with 24–27 hours of contact teaching each week, and another 20 hours per week of self-study. Each student is assigned a tutor for counselling, support and guidance.

Independent Student Accomodation

If older students want to live independently while studying, our student apartments have full facilities and easy access to UP International College campuses.

Student apartments

Student apartments give international students who are over 18 a chance to live independently, without having to sign a tenancy agreement. We have a range of apartments for different budgets, all within walking distance of our ACG Pathways campuses. Apartments are fully furnished, self-contained studios, with laundry and cooking facilities. Wireless internet and cleaning services are included, and students have access to a TV lounge, pool table and a quiet study area, as well as gym facilities, bike storage, and an outdoor area..

More apartment services

In Auckland, we also refer our international students to the Empire, Princeton and Columbia apartments, which offer standard facilities close to UP International College. The Unilodge student apartments are also nearby, and are newer, with better facilities and higher rates.

Our Wellington foundation students can access accommodation through Victoria University.

Independent accommodation

Homestay or student accommodation is the best and easiest option for international students. Those who arrange their own accommodation should do their research and think carefully before entering into a tenancy agreement. We can provide pamphlets and advice if needed.
