“Studying at UP International College really helped with our campus life because we already had friends when we started university, so we weren’t alone.”
Kia Ora! Could you introduce yourselves?
Hello, my name is Seaghan Wijaya, and I’m currently pursuing a degree in Communication Studies at AUT. I’ve always had a passion for media and communication, and AUT has been a great place for me to explore that passion further.
How did studying at UP International College help with university life?
Studying at UP International College really helped with our campus life because we already had friends when we started university, so we weren’t alone.
Did you face any challenges as an international student?
Speaking English is natural for me, but sometimes understanding different accents can be challenging because New Zealand is so diverse.
Did teachers at UPIC support you well?
Our interactions with the teachers have been great. They’re very supportive, especially towards international students, so we never feel left out.
How does studying at AUT compare to your education experience in Indonesia?
The material here is much more practical compared to Indonesia, where it’s very textbook-focused. Living alone here is also quite different because we don’t have our parents to motivate us every day
What do you like to do in your free time?
I often visit the recreation center at AUT, where students can play sports like badminton, volleyball, football, and more. There’s also a gaming room that opened recently.
What are your future plans?
I’ve always been interested in storytelling through media, and studying communication at AUT has been a perfect fit for me. I’m excited to pursue screen production.
What advice do you have for new students?
My advice is to make sure you enjoy the journey. University can be challenging, but if you’re having fun along the way, it won’t feel as overwhelming. Take time to appreciate the experiences, make friends, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
